Hey guys Im about to buy a DD to let the Supras rest and I'm stuck over a decision b/w a 1992 SC300 (110k) with re-done and extremely clean interior or a Black on Black 1995 Sc400 in good condition but high miles (200k)
Im going to swap in either a 1jz or 2jz in either one I pick, and I know the 300 is a better car for the swap but I love black/black combo. Which would you guys pick?
it all depends on what you wanna do with the car. if its going to be a DD then get a car that has a good interior and good mechanical aspect. make sure that control arm bushings and other things that may wear out with time and mileage are in good shape. i would say go with a car with less miles but then again the sc400 with 200k might have been maintained better then that sc300. if the interior of the sc400 is not as nice as the sc300 but mechanically better i would go with that. i work on all my cars myself and it doesnt matter to me if the interior is shot. so i would go with the car that drives better and better deal for the money. if you are going to swap the car anyways might as well get a sc300 to begin with. sc300 definitely gets better gas mileage then the sc400 until you do the swap.
Go with the one that will cost you the least amount of money to get what you're wanting and one that you will be happy with. I voted for the SC4 because it's probably cheaper and black-on-black is nice but the SC3 would be fine, too, with what you're trying to do. My last car I had for 9 years was green so I'm personally a little green'd out. All my future cars will be silver TEE-HEE. Silver is so clean, I love it. SC owners with silver SCs: I envy you everyday. My tan Lex is so clean, though.
I would suggest the SC400 with good exterior and interior. Experience the V8 for a while.. and then do the swap. The reason for that is because you will make more money selling your V8 engine then GE engine. There are many people willing to pay $800-$1,200 (Especially the rear sump in the SC400) for a complete V8 drive train (engine, harness, ECU and Tranny) then GE motor. 1995 Black on Black is very rare and good body is hard to find too.
90k less miles? 300! The only advantage in the 400 for a dd is if you keep the v8. If you're going to swap anyway, go 300. You can change colors if you're unhappy with the interior/exterior, but you'll have less headaches down the road; suspension, etc with the 300 having significantly less miles.
Get the vehicle history report on both and go from there.
