Am I getting a good buy?
I am about to buy a black 1994 sc300 5 speed with 84,000 miles for $8000. Everything works on the car and it looks like its in very good condition. The car seems to be everything I wanted so I put a $600 dollar hold on the car(low miles, 5 speed, and a older year in order to save on insurance). The car needs the 90k services; spark plugs, timing belt, and 90k tune up.
I took it to a mechanic and they said inaddsion to the things above I should replace the radiator and the lower control arm bushings. They aren't super bad but they are showing signs of wear. I also did a car fax and it came back clean. The car needs anlignment.
The body looks really good. It does have a few very small nicks and (very very small) dents. The right side head light has condensation in it. The trunk has some scratchs on the paint not too bad but I noticed them. The tires are very worn as well. Also I dont think I like the color black (dirt and sworles) I would like to have a white sc.
A little about me: I have been driving a modded out toyota matrix. The handleing is insane. I think I can pull a 0.92g. The only problem with the car is that it doesnt look very sport and since I dont have an XRS, its slow.
I dont like the 92-96 sc body style, the 97+ is good enough, but I most likely will be getting a origin style kit. SC will be a daily driver so it must be reliable, look good (kit, rims, lower) and handle. Later I will be making it fast.
First round of modding:
Flex with edfc
New bushings for just about everything
Sway bars
supra end links
camber kit.
Strut tower bar if compatable with edfc
maya stm rims 19x8.5 19x9.5 (already bought got a really good deal)
HID bulbs
A kit if I can aford one. Maybe shaved door handles, wider front fenders, painted CF hood. With this much going into the body it wouldnt be much more to paint the whole car.
Future plans include just about everything.
twin turbo swap 2j usdm
new leather
HID retro
big brakes
+more
I guess what I am wondering is if I should just get a beat up old sc300 for 3000 or whatever. I am really split
.
If I am going to have any chance at getting my $600 I need to back out soon so I would really like to hear what everyone thinks.
Should get this nice black good condition SC, or should I buy a $3000 auto SC put a new engine and conver it to manual. I have about $11,000 to play with, maybe less.

a blk/blk 5 speed is about as rare as they come. I would buy one with 300k on it these cars are absolutly amazing if they have been taken care of. Miles really don't mean that much when buying one of these cars.

I think people might be getting mixed up. The car I am thinking of getting is the one in the ebay link. black color/tan leather.
If I am going to get a car with 150,000 miles on in I am not going to pay anything close to 9000 for it.
I would like feed back on the 2 options of buying the car in the ebay link for 8000 or getting one that has high miles and replacing the engine right away.

last time i passed up a clean 5 spd, i didnt find another one that passed my lowest standards so i ended up with an affordable auto one.
if your digging it then get it, i mean your already 600 into it.
you could always flip dat ****

I would go for it, try to talk the guy down a few hundred, but other than that, original black int. 5 speed is a gem.
have you seen the car in person? the one in Sta Monica? the car looks clean, kind of what mine looked like when i first bought it, except for the tranny being Auto. i did pay a couple of thousands less and my car had 35K miles on it, original. i cought see the pictures for the one on Craiglist though.
now, the $11K you have to play with, is this on top of the $8K buying price or would that put you down to $3K after you purchase the car?

THE CAR IS NOT BLACK ON BLACK. Talk about getting off topic. lol
The car is BLACK with TAN
The craigs list add has nothing to do with this post.
I have about 3k after for mods.
Yes, I have seen the car in person. I took it to the dealer and had them look it over. Please read the post.

if your car will be n/a for most of its life i would give more weight to buying the 5 spd. if your planning on boosting or something with ridiculous power your probably gonna want to get rid of the w58 down the road so i personally didnt give it that much weight. sure its easier to swap in a car with a manual, but is it equal to like the 2 grand you might save. it is clearly a matter of preferance.
$3K for mods inst too bad, I just dont know if that will be able to get you very far, for now. the car looks clean, in the pictures. more than likely, you might want to do maintenance to any car you get, just to make sure everything is working properly. $8K seems a bit high to me, but maybe thats just me. if you really like and you feel good about it, go for it.
