lowering car
not a dumb question at all! i was thinking the same thing when i lowered my car. i would get shocks just because you'll have to do it sooner or later. having aftermarket springs will make your stock shocks work a lot harder. save some money and do everything at once. i lowered my car, then bought new shocks and had them installed. if i had waited for shocks, i could have saved myself 120 bucks.
If you were going to lower your car, you are at a juncture that is the most opportune time to replace the shocks if you think they need it. To put in new lowering springs, you have to remove the shocks or struts as they are called. Since you are expending the labor $ to remove them it is the best time to replace them. This is a good time to replace the shock boots too. These are the rubber skirts that protect the upper shock arm from getting grit, grime, etc on them. If yours do not need replacing, it is a good time to clean them up.
