As far as I know, the wiring are very different, just to make sure you don't put a 97 dash into a 96

Is that a magor job? do you need to cut and solder or is it a pulg in harness? I assume it requires complete dash disasembly?

It appears from some pictures I found that you can see the dash in the daylight without having to light up the dash.

Here are some pics from a 99 dash...

**Please note, I do not own a 97 or new SC300/400, I found those pictures on ebay. I am not responsible if you buy one expecting to be able to see it better than a 96 or older SC300/400 dash.**

The difference is that the 97+ are cold cathode backlight. While it looks good in pictures, it is a little grey and dim to my eyes in person. Another difference is that the needles have a brown face to them like the ES and they mount differently than the 92-96. The 97+ clusters having the cold cathode backlight, when it goes out you can't stick bulbs in them like you can the 92-96. The cathode in this cluster is a very odd length and guess who has to sell you one....... The big L themselves IF you can get them to do it since the techs will not usually repair the units at all.

it is my personal opinion that the 97+ cluster are just a big pain in the azz with zero options for any mods. I do like they way the center shifter looks in them though and the lcd readout for the mileage is cleaner than the heated green cathode grids that are in the old clusters.

Imo the older dash cannot compare to the 97+ dash lighting .The lighting looks way more modern the the pre 97's with the cold cathodes.Thats why there is no need for modding .i haven't had any problems with the lighting yet because i keep the illumination low.By the way anybody here with a 97+cluster have any light out?

The dash lights are on in that picture. You wouldn't be able to see anything without the lights being on.

Looks like a cool mod, but not really worth the trouble. I do like my 97 dash but the 96 will surfice.
