TRD Brake Pads?
There is a brake pad made by Performance Friction sold at Autozone that is basically a painted over TRD pad. Part #5024 . Many members of Tacoma Territory swear by this. Anyone know if the same applies to the SC?
This is from the TTORA message board:
The part number for the Performance Friction pads that Autozone carries (rebadged TROD pads) is: 5024. They are for a 1996 Land Cruiser and come with a lifetime warranty. Cost me about $40. Just tell the parts counter guy the part number and he'll run right back and get them without any questions. The pads take about 20 minutes to change.

I just dropped in the Performance Friction pads last night, and the braking power has increase an order of magnitude - I mean WOW! But, and there's always a but, the new pads exhibit a very high tendency to squeal. I suppose that is due to the higher metallic content. I've half considered picking up some stock pads to remedy this, but I really like the response I get from these pads -maybe I'll just deal with the noise.

Hey Shutdown:
I do not know about the pads you discuss. However, I have opted for pads that reduce or totally eliminate brake dust and simultaneously provide excellent braking capabilities. This type of pad is called the "carbon kevlar" pad. These pads are usually offered in 3 or 4 compounds ie: street, rally, race, heavy car race. I am using the street compound. They are sometimes referred to as "green" pads. Chris at cyberauto carries both the fronts and rears. Alot of places have just the fronts but do not have the carbon kevlar rear pads.
These pads are very nice on drilled and slotted rotors and keep your wheels pretty much free of black brake dust. Be sure to read the directions on them for initial bedding. Some brands want you to feather the brakes under drive conditions to seat the pads or "bed" them as it were.
These types of pads are not bargain pads however. If price is what you are looking for then this is the wrong direction of travel.

Apparently they are the same for the Tacoma and 4runner according to here:

TRD pads are semi-metallic. I don't see how that pad's compounds are any much better than the OEM pads. If I were to buy some other better pad that was semi-metallic. I would probably go with Axxis pads. I have heard that a certain company makes the pads for OEM which, the name has just slipped my mind though. I put them on my car and are the same but, pricing was much cheaper than OEM. I got it for like 1/3 the price than stock (full set).
The EBC pads (carbon kevlar) are a different compund but, cost 2x as much. I would be interested in how it is. Is it better in stopping? Did you have any problems with brale noise?

This thread is 1 1/2 years old, so I just wanted to see if anybody had any fresh updates/info on the Performance Friction pads.
Also, #5024 are for the front pads. What's the part # for the rear pads, or are they the same for the front and rear?
Thanks.

Actually PF made them for TRD,sold them at toyota dealers, their pad material works well, but noisy. The non TT Supra application is what you want to fit our cars.Autozone has good prices on these, since TRD doesn't carry them anymore.
