what is the easiest way to take out the front shocks and springs? i've done sr20 swaps and have done full suspension work on my s13, but i cant figure out the easiest way to remove the front shocks on the sc. i tried a spring compresser but no luck... figured i'd ask you guys first before i take off the upper control arm haha.
No need to remove upper control arm completely, just undo the rear bolts.
You need to remove the lower shock mount from the lower control arm and the upper mount from under the hood. The entire shock and spring come out as one unit. Then use the spring compressor before removing the top cap over the spring.
Read through this. A simple use of the search function put this right at the top!

un-do the UCA bolt. It is a bastard of a bolt to break free. The UCA will now want to slide out.
before you do this, make sure the ABS sensor wire is removed from the UCA itself (a couple bolts) and that you have something to suspend the hub other than the brake line (like a wire coat hanger).
At this point, loosen the three bolts on the top mount of the shock/spring assembly and then the big one at the bottom.
On the driver's side, you have to remove the windshield washer fluid jug to clear the UCA bolt. On both sides, you need to remove the inner fender lining.
The walkthrough that was linked to above is a great DIY with pictures to boot.
Since I just changed out my shocks and springs 2 weekends ago and I didn't remove or unbolt any control arms, so I'll said that there's no need to remove the UCA.
All you need to do is remove the 19mm nut and bolt from the bottom of the shock, disconnect sway bar from the bracket on the LCA, remove the bracket that holds the bottom of the shock and sway bar on the LCA(just 2 bolts, swivel socket would come in handy here), undo the 3 nuts holding the shock/spring on top and you'll be able to remove the whole shock/spring assembly. Oh, I removed the caliper just to make it easy to slide the assembly out.
