Grinding/Vibration @ 40 MPH
Ah well. yet another nusance. It's nothing major, the car still pulls, shifts and drives fine, but has anyone had the problem when around 40 MPH and I accelerate lightly, I get a vibration. No one else who rides in the car even notices it, but I do.
Any insight? it's a 93 SC400.
Once again, thanks in advance.

One of my friends had this on an LS400. It was very intermittant at first, then got worse and worse. What it was eventually diagnosed as was a hanging brake caliper on one of his rear wheels. The pad was not releasing. This may not be your problem at all but it is worth looking into.

Yeah i agree, The same thing just happened on to my LS on Monday, Took it into the dealer yesterday and it turned out to be a locked brake caliper on my front passenger brake. It wasn't to bad to fix, about $75 for the part and an hour of labor. Luckily i had alot of pad left on my brakes otherwise they said i would have ruined my rotors and they were surprised i didn't because i was driving 80mph with one brake applied the whole time, so there was alot of heat. The dealer told me this happens "once in awhile" on the older LS's but he didn't mention SC. Hope this helps and i would definitly get it checked.

If it's not a caliper hanging up, check the torque converter (funny, we've been talking about converters all day, now this). If it is failing, it will 'chug' a bit around 40-45mph, the speed at which the converter locks. Let me know what it was, bro.

thanks guys. I think before I head over to the lexus dealer, I'll check with my friend/owner of the local toyota dealership. (Thinking of a Transmission fluid flush also).
I forgot to mention that this problem is more pronounced with the ECT PWR off. (In NORM mode).
Once again, thank you.

Well, I haven't been able to go to the dealership yet, been too busy w. christmas shopping. But I did get the vibration @ 60 MPH which makes me think it isn't the torque converter. My car has 107k Miles.... I'm saving up for a Supra (More aftermarket...) But anyhow, I'm also gonna need to replace the exaust, it's getting wicked loud (Car got more power tho)...
Bottom Line: I think it's the caliper. Anyone know how to fix that yourself? I've got 2 weeks of winter break, and a 4,000 Sq Ft garage...

had a similar problem with a soft grinding sound at 1800rpm in 2nd gear. i thought it was a tranny problem, but it turned out to be a loose mount on my right exhaust pipe which rattled. i tightened the bracket it and the sound was gone. easy fix, cost me $0. you should try this first.
