Default heavy SC

Is it correct that the SC300 weighs almost 200 lbs more than the IS300? why is that? both have leather, both RWD. maybe its the huge SC hood, lol.

IS300: 3,328

SC300: 3,506

i found slightly different numbers from different sights (all have SC weighing more), but i figured i'd trust Wikepedia's numbers, lol.

Maybe because all sc's are older now, they still had real metal in most places and a heavier construction unlike newer cars.

haha, seriously, it is in the doors. And I think the physical dimentions for the car are larger.

I think 2500 may be low. 3650 sounds more right to me. The IS is newer and smaller. The SC is real long. The doors are so heavy they can bend the factory hinges over time.

Fortunately, this all makes our cars very safe. Whether nailing a guard rail at 85 or killing Bambi at 55, our cars seem to walk away from wrecks like a champion.

Thats right. Our SCs weight about 3650. Our cars are bigger than the IS and the SC can handle an accident like a tank. These are pretty solid built cars that were made to last. Have you seen pics of the SC in an accident? Pretty much everything gets crunched and the cabin will pretty much keep its shape. Very safe car. Very heavy but very safe.

Plus, with dozens of Club Lexus guys running 400whp, I am sure that they can attest the car feels a bit lighter at that point.

If you considering an IS300 or SC300, you can get an SC300 and make it look and ride jawdroppingly for the same price as the IS300.

I agree, heavy car, but it's the safest I've felt in any car since riding in a dodge charger!!

Don't forget the 1st gen IS has a slightly more compact 2jzge than the SC 2jzge. SC also has dual exhausts.

According to autos.msn.com, a 1996 SC300 weighs 3,560lbs and the SC400 weighs 3,610lbs. The weights fluctuate by a few lbs for different years especially the 1998+ models. You can also look up weights of other cars there as well under the "Features" tab then under "Exterior".

Build an SC300/400 today out of parts they would use today and take an older one, now put both of them in the exact same accident, oldschool will win. Thats the problem with new cars today, too cheaply built, materials wise. Its all about weight reduction today and fuel efficiency. I bet that little savings in you're pocket won't be doing you any good once you're in the ground.

Personally i don't mind the heavy set car at all, doesn't feel too much heavier than my old maxima and handles just fine.

Talk about heavy, the car I learned to drive in before I got my sc was a Lincoln Town car... weighs in at something like 4400 lbs.

I can back up that claim 100%. If it weren't for my SC I might not be here today. THANK YOU SC!
