Default Cold Start Idle

After searching up the threads on this topic Ive come to realize that no one is experiencing the problem I have. It doesnt effect my performance but it sure isnt right. After my clutch replacement about 2 months ago I noticed that my car idles real low at a cold start. Its at 500rpm all the time. Are there any sensors I should be checking or replacing? I have no CEL light. My car is a 93 5spd.

Idles only at 500rpm on a cold start is strange. You said it happened after you replaced your clutch. Did you do it yourself or mechanic? If it was a mechanic take it back there. If you did it yourself, were there any sensors you forgot to plug back in while doing the clutch job?

I think many cars have a fast idle solenoid that allows more air into the intake on a vaccum trigger or it could be electric--

Sorry, that's all I know--

I did it myself. But the only sensor I have to touch when doing the job is the speed sensor. I dont know. My car had been sitting in my garage for a month without driving. It wouldnt start so I changed the spark plugs to get it to run. Maybe I shouldnt have left that huge detail.

even with different plugs the rpm variation wouldn't be 600, and I'm sure you did the right plugs--

Sounds like your fast idle/cold start solenoid isn't triggering for some reason--

It could be as simple as a vacuum line dislodged that would simply make the solenoid inoperable if in fact it is vacuum operated--

I've noticed my SC4 acts kind of grumpy from a cold start and is better when it warms up. But it could just be a maintenance issue with spark plugs, etc.

I dont have to tap the gas on mine. It just idles like if it were to be at temperature already. Try the sensor out and if it works let me know. The only other thing I can think of is the IAC. But who knows.

IAC sounds right--

But I guess a code read would really be in order here to know if it is a TPS or IAC or whatever--

My car just doesn't want to crank when it's cold sometimes-- The motor runs perfect and has new plugs with good wires and new distro/rotors --

Someone suggested a cold start injector could be clogged for mine-- ????

Anyone heard of this??

Any updates to this? I might be experiencing same issue although mine is an automatic. Seems like my fan is on when its a cold start. Idle is at about 500rpm I believe. I just had my oil changed and replaced the serpentine belt.
