i replaced the entire interior. kinda miss the tan interior tho...
yeah, the horn wiring runs in conjunction with the airbag wiring, within the coiled loom. once you remove it, its all gone. most hubs are made for non airbag cars with the other style of horn wiring. i think splash/hkb/daikei have a more expensive hub that retains the cruise control and horn wiring. all you would then need is one of those kits that mount buttons behind the steering wheel.
I think your correct. I just recieved my HKB hub kit (special order item) for the JZA80/JZZ30 series chassis. All in all it has the semi circular white connector that plugs into the air-bag/ horn oem connector in the column.
I will get a couple of pics of it. It cost me right at $100 shipped.
you definately lose your airbag and CC though as you need to remove the huge black and yellow ring thingy unless you pay $$$ for the special hubs that retain all that.
To do the horn (and i'll try my best without pics here)... one of the plugs you will be unplugging has 4 or 5 prongs in a row. The lead for the horn is on one of the ends. The horn works by closing the circuit (grounding that live wire). So take a paperclip and insert it into one of the ends of the plug to find out which one it is (and ground it somewhere to the steering column).
When you put the hub on... you'll see the wires and it should be pretty straight forward on what you'll need to do to make the horn work.
I personally used the paperclip to keep it grounded to the ring, works great.
Also, just a suggestion for those wanting to use a quick release... use a short hub, otherwise you'll find yourself stretching to reach for the turn signals.
i would... but i'm way too lazy to take my hub back off...
i know its hard to visualize... but if you look at the back of the hub you'll see a metal contact ring... then if you look into the steering column you'll see you can reuse a stock screw to ground a paperclip and have one end touch/contact that contact ring on the hub. The rest is just the power wire
Old photo but still have the same Isotta Wheel with cruise and horn still both working. You can just see the 3 buttons on the hub that control the cruise control functions.
