Default Please help with noise issue!!!

I have a 92 SC400. The problem I have is whenever I engage in gear (D) I hear a ticking noise like bunch of crickets under my car. When I take it off gear (P), then the noise is gone. Does anyone know whats wrong with my car? It drive fine by the way, there is no other mechanical issues.

Has the transmission been serviced at all? Something we all have forgotten at one time or another is basic maintenance. Get the basics out of the way first when troubleshooting. Sometimes its just that simple.

Ok I just went through all my records and found out that trans fuid, and differential fluid was changed at around 120k miles. I now have about 149k.

Also I notice when I turn the steering wheel the noise goes away and then comes back as I turn the steering wheel left and right. So when I turn, the noise is gone, but once stopped it comes back. If I sit there and just turn the steering wheel left and right, the noise goes on and off. This noise can only be heard when its in gear R D L or 2. Lastly when the car moves the noise goes away. Overall the noise is heard when the car is sitting still and engage in one of the drive gear.

Anyone have any clue whats going on?

This has been covered in other threads, and has nothing to do with the transmission. But 123 is on the right track: the power steering pump is driven by the serpentine belt.
