What makes a Lexus ghetto?

Rims over 18". You know the ones that have 1 cm of tire around them.

Racing stickers.

Non-factory fin.

Coffee can exhaust.

Gold emblems <==== super ghetto!!!

Stereo that has plenty of bass but sounds like crud.

that goes for any car.

about the stereo, i hate it when they have a pretty nice system but then the trunk, windows and other loose things start rattling and vibrating.

4 TV's in a car basically for 2 people. Why does the driver need one in his visor?

Or even WORSE the CHANDELIERS hanging in ANY vehicle!!! Now this is GHETTO...

Well, I disagree with some of the things on your list Hermosa, but anyways heres my list (which could also work for any car)

(I saw almost all these on one SC400)

Cut springs
Only exhaust tips replaced
Chrome/gold highlights across the wheel well
Cheap-*** chrome wheels (you know the ones that i'm talking about, wavy chrome all over the rim, the kind you would throw on a ghetto geo)
small wheels that stick out
fake antennas
lying about the year of their SC (i hate it when people do this to me when i'm looking at there car)

I'd have to disagree with many of these. What's wrong with a car having 20's? As long as they look good....

I had racing stickers...I didn't think they looked ghetto. Neither did a ton of other people.

Non-factory fin? What about the one that comes on it that's NONfunctional. Funny how many people are called ricers for putting on ANY nonfactory wing, and they say that the wing doesn't help them. Well our factory wing doesn't help us...check out the wind tunnel results. (i'll find the link for ya) My wing is not factory, in fact, it's a totally non-factory looking aluminum, that increases downforce on the power wheels. Interesting concept...a part that has a use.

A car that's ghetto is all in the eye of the beholder. If they like it, then you shouldn't bash it. They spent their time and money doing stuff to it that they like. Just like if someone came up to you and said "dude, that yellow shirt looks friggin stupid"....and it's your favorite shirt.

Granted I give people sh*t when they put a Type-R sticker on a Dodge Neon (anyone else see that car on SpeedVision? lol) or put stickers for parts they don't/can't have, but that's a little different. Just like people lying about the year of their car.

It's all about the *opinion*

Hey, hey, the gold emblems came with the car when i bought it in 1993 . I didn't have a choice. But you guys are right, it's ugly. I am thinking about changing them to silver. Any idea how much?

And on this note...here's a prime example. I've quoted below the important part. One that fixes up their car to THEIR taste...not because someone else thinks it's cool...shouldn't be looked at as riced or ghetto...unless they're doing truly rice/ghetto things. e.g. Type-R badging on a vehicle that damn well isn't a Type-R.

as you may have, i worked very hard for everything i have and i realize red wheels may not be your taste, but they are mine. and according to you i may have bad taste, but like i said, this should be non of your concern so my point out of all this is keep your hate comments to yourself, i'm not interested to hear from you on how to fix up my car, if i was i'd ask, but until i do shut up, please

gold emblems do not make a car look ghetto ...especially on darker cars or else i doubt that lexus would sell them like that ...but like every thing else beauty is in the eye of the beholder ...what a lot of you are saying is that doing adding anything to a car amounts to making it ghetto ...so what it boils down to is that this is a useless discussion which has no value except to stereotype, offend and somehow perpetrate the better than thou syndrome ...let people do what they want to thier car ...and if you don't like it well simply don't do it to yours

sorry guys but anything above a certain wheel width relative to the car, the car becomes ghetto

on cars like the 300zxTT or SupraTT it was 18" was just right... and 19s look ghetto most of the time

well the SC300/400 is 1" up... 19s look great on a SC... but 20s look ghetto... i don't care how much they cost blah blah... they look ghetto... i've never seen a 20" rim that i liked; they all seem to belong on ghettofied SUVs... i've seen 19s on Supras that look great... and 19s that looked great on a SC... but 20s to me all look the same...

as for stickers; as long as they aren't really stupid like 'rainbow racing' or describe a performance part that is not equipped on the car, then they are ok... and as long as thats not all you see when you look at the car...

I hate cars that stickered out... even though they can run 10s and everything... if they come up with stickers everywhere where I cant even trace the lines of the car (especially the beautiful lines of a SC) then i consider it ghetto...

oh and any vehicle weighing over 4500lbs and still classified as a car is ghetto like those 6500lb mid 70s crown vics... that i see sometimes LOL

and they hit it right with the fake chrome rims... or the throwing star style ghetto-thug rims, etc... rattling trunk because of too much bass,

Gold Emblems
The Bergundy Red W/ Gold emblems works better than the silver emblems. But *any* fender trim is definitely out. I cruise through Lynn allot... (Any one from MA knows the phrase "Lynn Lynn the city of sin never come out the way you went in.") And you see plenty of phathetic honda civics... 1991 body style w/ glowing windshield washer nozzels. but anyhow. Gold "L" Emblems i think are Ok on the burgundy. just my humble opinion.

and A few stickers... if you're a screamer... computer whiz your few stickers just scream "don't even try... I'll embarress you."

Spendin' money on an upscale car is not the wisest financial decision you could ever make, but hey,we all do it...
Before I owned one ALL Lexus' were ghetto, because I knew the new name was just pasted onto a Camry, and that took a long time for me to get over.

-I like the factory wing....so i guess im ok there.
-Yup,Phat exhaust!!

to me the things that standout easiest for the general public to notice as bad taste are

1. huge spoiler
2. wheels that stick out
3. rims that are not elegant or simple

Top ten things that you can do to your car to make it Getto-

10. Small, roller skate wheels that stick out; usually they are gold.

9. Vehicle lowered so much that the tires are cambered out.

8. Wing so big it makes the Wright Brothers jealeous.

7. Trunk rattling when the bass hits- in conjunction with distorting tweeters.

6. Oversized wheels - sorry guys, it looks WAY Getto!

5. Oversized exhaust tips on a factory set up.

4. Chrome fender highlites.

3. Neon underglow - sometimes it looks good; but still getto.

2. Switching badging to make a car into a different model than it really is. i.e. Type R or SC300/400 swaping

And the #1 example of going getto is - I know I'm offending a lot of people here, but lets not forget the

1. FAKE HID lights that look like someone wrapped the headlights in blue saranwrap.
