I just noticed this recently on my 96 5sp. This is only noticable if I'm accelerating...like getting on a highway. After each shift, the RPMs will increase for a split second and suddenly it'll drop about 1k RPM or less before climbing back up...the whole time, I'm stomping on the gas. Does you guys have an idea what the problem is?

Yeah drive a little easier on the clutch and see if it does it, shift at lower rpm's. If it doesn't sounds like a slipping clutch to me. I reccomend replaceing it with the centerforce dual friction. It feels exactly like stock and lets you have fun when you want to.
yeah, i don't really notice it when shifting at lower rpm's, or during normal driving...only when i'm getting on the freeway. how much will replacing the clutch cost me?
Rookie
at normal rpms the flywheel may not be spinning fast enough to slip, or your not hammering it as much at lower rpms as you are at higher rpms.
a clutch change will vary, depends on the shop, amount they charge per hour. I'd put asside atleast $400 if you cant do it yourself, or know someone who could hook you up.

The guy w/ this IS still is happy w/ this set up. Sniff around,
there's so many choices in clutches, its hard to choose.

Thanks guys. Any suggestions on where to get the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch for a good price?
Instructor
$375 from lexus if you want the stock clutch kit, $300 for the clutch kit from centerforce. You're porbably looking at $300-$350 in labor, its a 5-6 hour job, dropping the transmission and everything.
