To your question, it was definitely an 07 - the sticker on the window said so! It had a six speed auto tranny I believe with manual shifting up and down available...very similar in fact to my 07 SC430.
Of course, having never driven a CVT vehicle I wouldn't know the difference if there was one in the Max...

 

I wonder if that variable intake mani will fit the 1st gen 1UZ???????????????????

 

Very strange, going to Nissan USA there is only the CVT listed.

It is not a direct fit. The non VVTi earlier engine has a different angle at the intake manifold to head flange. It is possible to build an adaptor but I haven't seen it done yet. That said, I would do it if possible because not only is it variable it is a far better flowing intake period.

 

J, indeed it apperars that the CVT is only one listed/availble.

 

CVT's will do what seems like shifting, where varying throttle input will cause quick changes in rev's, which will seem like upshifts/downshifts......

The Max's CVT I believe also has a 6 spd mode, that runs through 6 preset ratios and mimicks a geared trans like a manumatic-- but really for no reason, except coolness-- The CVT will work better when you let it control the ratio's itself under WOT --

About the intake from the VVTI 1UZ, it's really interesting to me, since the intake and heads both flow better, I wonder if you could adapt the heads and intake to the 1st gen fairly easily and delete the operation of the VVTI since it's performance increase is minimal anyhow and could allow you to use the first gen 1UZ ecu-- It seems like they achieved the majority of the 40~ish hp increase via a better flowing intake and heads and possibly exhaust -- not to mention a little hotter ECU tune--

 

how is adding a supercharger going crazy? its $1100 for the bracket, a few hundred for a used M90, few hundred for a piggy ECU and programming, pretty sweet setup for not alot of cash. I'm sure they spend just as much time/work/$ on the SC300's adding a turbo.

 

Someone should use sourcemines recipe and keep a running total to see how cheap you can s.c. an sc400.

 

I've been working on it.

I already have the Supra LSD, and the Lextreme TQ, and a recently rebuilt tranny with aux. cooler, so my car should be able to handle it no problem.

I missed out on te Richwood technologies group buy, I was thinking about it, but didnt know how long this car would be mine.

M90's go for cheap on ebay, and people sell them reconditioned for a fair price.

I missed out on a SMT6 programmer on ebay, that would of been suitable, and there are some people on other forums with the maps already you can download and use them for a start to tuning them.

I am going to be buying up more supra wheels, I'm sure they will become more rare, they are the only thing that will cleak a BBK and wider rears.

There are plenty of places around Socal at least to tune whatever stand alone system makes sense, but I think I can get away with a piggyback ecu.
