Rear Axles, removal???

Default Rear Axles, removal???

i need to get my rear end bearings replaced and possibly the whole axles. can anyone tell me if it is worth it to do it myself, or should i take it to a mechanic?? Please help

if you're already paying the shop for the bearing replacement u might as well have them do all the work nessessary to complete the job.

now that i look at my center differential, it is all gooy with fluid. could a fried differential cause the wheel bearings to bad and allow the pass. side rear wheel to wiggle a half inch??

Do it yourself, Jack the car up on jack stands and remove the rear tires...Get a allen rachet and remove the 5 or 6 bolts holding the axles onto the differential..They will then drop down....Then get a huge socket and remove the pin and huge axle nut mounted to the spindal......Then slide the axle out, very easy...t...

Just repack the new bearings well with grease, and make sure the nuts are torqued down to factory specifications and that is it.....You can do it in less then an hour and save a ton of money...Used axles are cheap at he yards, and I even have an exrta one laying around in perfect shape that I can let go for cheap...It is for a 95 and newer SC with the extended wheel base....Let me know and good luck...
