Default 2001 Rear Brakes Question

Hello all

so one of my wheel studs on the rear wheels seems to have been counter-bored (If thats the correct term). I have taken off the rear caliper, and the rotor does not seem to want to come off.. I have begun taking off the center screw (not a normal shape.. and theres a center lock screw to ensure it does not go pass a certain point) It seems like you need a SST to remove the rear rotor is this correct? (its 12 sided and pointy on the edges)

Thanks!

p.s. sorry if it doesnt make too much sense.. I dont really know the correct terms for parts..

EDIT: This black piece.. do I need a SST to remove it? or Do i need to remove in in general to remove the rear rotor?

i must have had a brain fart or something... the rotor had rusted and stuck.. took a rubber mallet hit it a few times and it slipped right off

I don;t think you have to take any thing else other than the caliper to remove the rotor. Your rotor is likely rusted on the hub spindle pretty tight.

There are two holes in the rotor (located on inner edge of the rotor at about 3 and 9PM positions on your posted picture. They are threaded holes and designed to assist in getting a stuck rotor off the hub. Go get a couple of bolts that have matching threads (mm size) and tread them into the screw holes - they will push the rotor out from the back of the hub as they are threaded into the otor and out the back side.

The rotor is free, held in.place by the caliper and five studs. Once wheel is off and caliper off, the caliper will come off. As jabber said its only dirt and rust hold it in place. Use two bolts to loosen as described or use a rubber mallot and tap. Some rotors on cars are held with small bolts but ls is not

1. Make sure the parking brake is released.
2. As the other stated use some bolts and holes on the rotors to help push the rotor from the hub. Not sure what size and tread pitch though.
3. If you need to, use some rust penetrant and spray the center where the hub meets the rotor and let it soak.

The bolt above is the axle shaft nut. You do NOT need to remove this to remove the rotor.
