Default progressive grinding noise

i have progressive grinding noise n the rear end of my sc300. at first i thought it was the breaks, but when i apply the brakes, the grinding does not go away. could it maybe be the hub bearings or something else??

when i turn to the left the grinding gets slower, and when i turn to the right it gets faster. and rear brakes used to squeak, but they dont anymore. i am getting them replaced, but could it maybe be a broken brake pad, or maybe the e brake shoes??

Sounds like you might have run the metal backing of the pads into the rotors. The squeeling was the little metal squeelers on the pads telling you to have the brakes checked,That usually starts when there is around 2/32 of pad left. If you ignore that sound for too long eventually all of the friction material (most often on the inboard pad that can't be seen through the wheel) will wear down and it's bad news from there. You're probably gonna end up buying new rotors as well. It won't matter if you're on the brake pedal or not. at this point they are gonna rub non stop.

try and wiggle your wheel with everyhing on there... try holding 12 and 6 position and wiggle it... if it moves then you have bad bearings... when you check front wheels same 12 and 6 will tell you the bearing condition and 9 and 3 if it shakes a lot then something is wrong with your rack and pinion... you said you have different noise when you turn left and right ... sounds like you have problem on your hub area... and when the wheel is on you jack it up and you wiggle it. on normal condition it shouldn't move at all... on any cars... if it moves something is wrong ... well try that first... and if you have any question you can either pm me. i hope this will help...

if you take out the hub and take it to any mechanic it will be cheap and fast... i never done it on sc before but you might need press to fit that bearing in there ... or it will be PITA to make it go in there perfect... if you take the whole car to a mechanic it will cost quite a lot.... i guess like 2~300 maybe im not really sure on price... i never estimated lexus suspension work when i used to work as a mechanic...
