Default Lowering The Car

I am planning to buy a body kit for the sc400 im going to have soon. I am prolly going to just change the front bumber. Also Im interested in 18's. I want to really lower my future car but not so low that I'll hurt the kit. Also I want to be able to adjust the suspension back to stock, or maybe higher, in case of a bump or ramp. I heard talk about coilovers, but can they be adjusted with a switch? I dont really mind a harsh ride, what do u reccomend. I talked to theis one guy about airbag suspension, and found a kit for $500, but ill have to get it installed, and prolly have the wheel wells shaved, not that i know what that means. I dont wanna be a HOPPER, but I do want the look of a lowrider. What does thou members reccomend? Im attaching pic of the bumper i want

Ya, my stock SC400 is only about an inch higher than my friends TL with coilovers. I have to make sure I do not go over speed bumps or holes fast since I will scrape (I'm used to driving an F150 )

hydros/controlled suspension's the only way you can keep from destroying the front of the car and breaking off your exhaust tips... Some lowered cars are ok but these cars have such a massive overhang past the front wheels that Lexus took a measurable loss from replacing angry customer's front spoilers. That's why the later ones had it deleted, but I think that it looks better with it.

Ok, so I have a 1998 SC300 and I want to lower it with the Eibach Pro Kit. Will this create the problems that were mentioned above? The car doesn't have a body kit on it at all. Would my exhausts rub along with the front bumper?

Hey Silver,
I have the full AB-Flug kit on my car right now. Very expensive kit, who's gonna import the front piece for you? I'm riding on 18" rims and my car is not drop yet. The front doesn't really scrape that much. I go over most bumps just fine. I'm gonna buy Espilar springs and tokico shocks pretty soon. It's gonna be a 1.7" drop. Eibach just doesn't look drop enough with 18" rims. Maybe 19's will look good with the Eibach springs. About airbag suspension, where did you find the kit at?

You could also go with 20's which will RAISE the car up a little bit so that when you lower it, the height of the car won't be that low but it'll looked really dropped...

Those $500 airbag kits suck (that's why they're only $500)...I know a few people who have them and they break constantly...I don't know of a GOOD quality airbag kit...

Coilover can NOT be adjusted while the car is moving...you have to adjust collars that are actually on the shock so in most cases, you'll have to remove the wheels just to get the adjusters. However, coilovers are great for people who have real winters...during the winter, you put winter tires on anyways, so while you're putting them on, you can raise the car back up to stock height...

As MadMaxSC400 said, the SC has some massive overhang so if you put on a kit and lower it (especially on 18's), you're gonna hit...looks or practicality...

MrGQ - Ab Flug? Very nice! Not my choice for the SC but I have mad respect for Ab Flug...I've seen their tuning work and it's impressive. Espilar springs? Nice...who does your importing? PM (Private Message) me...thanks...

Bozz Performance here in the bay does my importing. They get a shipment from Japan once every other month. MAS Wheelhouse & Bozz Performance in California, are the only two Ab flug distributors in the US. You can get a hold on them through the Ab flug website:
ab-flug.co.jp
Silver, if you're getting your Ab flug elsewhere, I'd make sure that it's orginal. It should come with installation manual (in Japanese of course), Ab flug stickers, mounting nuts and bolts, and other Ab flug accessories. Also, their fiberglass is thin, but is very tuff compare to other US kits that I've seen.
I got the whole kit over a year ago. It was around $4,500 USD. I believe the front piece alone was $1,200 if I remember right. Bozz Performance said that it was the first Type II kit for the soarer that Ab flug shipped to the US.
As for the Espilar, yes my car will scrape. I'll just be extra careful; there's not that many dips where I live anyways. My car is hecka high right now. Thats why I'm getting the 1.7" drop over the Eibach. Also I've heard the Espilar handles better than the Tein for the amount of drop that it gives.

Nah, I think it'll look just fine. The Ab flug side skirt kindda stick out a little, so i'm planning to let a custom body shop do fender flares for the car. Also, I think that the veildside back piece requires you to change your exhaust in order for it to fit. Double check on this tho. It's either veildside or duck luck that requires this. It's over a year ago since I went shopping for body kits, so I'm not quite sure.
