Removing SC300 dash
I need to pull an SC's dash out for a few repairs and a dye job. I found the center woodgrain removal, which takes care of the passenger airbag. So, once that section is out, and the console and cluster... what else needs to be removed? I know there will be some hidden PITA screw that frustrates the hell out of me if I don't ask prior to removing stuff
Thanks
James

Thanks

You don't wanna know.
You especially don't wanna know that they put the entire wiring for the front half of the car ON THE DASH inside. This means you have to unrivet the main wiring harness and remove the junction box.

well i removed the dash out of my soarer half, and the dash out of my friends silvia half, ours was wayyy easier, im going by memory here so be careful and double check yourself, but as i remember, once u get all the obvious screws out, like u sait u got the trim out andu should have the cluster and bottom panels removed alread, plus the stereo area, u should be able to see all the screws holding it in, then theres the ones on the side behind the little vent that goes to the door. then the reasonit was so much easier than my friend was all the part by the windo just pops out, so theres no screws hidden under the defroster vent
I've taken apart two dashes within the past two weeks... what a tedious job...
two screws on each left and right side... two behind cluster... two behind glove box..... a few more around the area of the glove compartment depending on what year you got...
everything else is simple after that

oh yea, dropping the steering column manually will help, theres a faq i think at planetsoarer.com along with a faq on removing the steering wheel, its just 2 screws under the column behind the bottom panel(not the bottom of the steering wheel, but the bottom part of the dash, after those 2 bolts(10 or 12mm) are out the steering wheel will drop more making it a breeze to get the cluster and panels around the steerin wheel out, and the steering wheel has only a few bolts, but ull need to either rent superman or a pully puller to get it off...
I figured, you could drop the column.
Another way to remove the wheel is to loosen the nut,but dont take it off. Spin it loose untill its even with the end of the bolt (so you dont mess up the threads). Carefully hit the bolt w/ a hammer while pulling straight out on the wheel, with your legs and your free hand. Works every time.
