Steering Wheel Adjustment Question
Ok guys... used the search function but can't find what I'm looking for....
As a recent purchaser of a SC300, I've been going over the car slowly, checking all of the little details out. While I was cleaning out the interior on the driver's side, I (foolishly) decided to monkey with the electric steering wheel adjustment switch.
My steering wheel moves in and out of the dash freely, but will only go up...
so now it's at the moximum height and I can't get it back down.
When I press the down button, there is a short noise, like the motor is trying to work, but the noise stops abruptly and the wheel never moves down.
Can anyone help?
Is this a common problem?
I pulled the lower steering column cover, but I don't see anything obviously amiss.
I can easily identify the motor that moves the wheel in and out, but not the one that raises and lowers it.
Any and all help is appreciated!
PS: the FAQ is right, soft scrub works wonders for freshening up an interior that hasn't been detailed in a long while. I was skpetical, but it _does_ work!

This might help
If not....hook up a "come-along" to the seat frame and the steering wheel...start ratcheting!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Guess I need to use better search terms.... seems obvious now.
I'll disassemble and attempt repair tomorrow.
The knowledge base here at CL continues to amaze me.
Thanks again.

Thanks again for the point in the right direction.
I followed the instructions, with a slight modification: my gear was slipping off the _inside_ of the motor shaft. I used two washers, one on the inside and one on the outside of the gear, then tightened it down. Works like a champ!
