What sensor is this?
Hey guys,
I have a 92 SC400 and am in the process of changing the starter.
The old one was drawing too much current upon starting the engine. I had it rebuilt and it tested ok. During its removal, however, I accidentally broke the top of one of the two sensors that sit on either side of the engine block.
Anyone knows what these sensors are for?
Carib

Part # 89615-50010
It ain't cheap.
The dealer is quoting me about $234 CDN tax included. (I'm in Toronto)...
And so begins the quest to find the the best price for that sensor....
Latahs,

Try CARSON TOYOTA in Southern California. 1888 341 3000 or 1 310 549 3131. Ask for Gordon.

If you do a google search type in "lexus knock sensor" you will find a few companies that sell them for $150 and some offer free shiping.

But if you look at it there is no other place for it. The engine bay is too cram-in.

They designed the car, not stuck the engine in a car that was already built. "they" designed the engine bay and they put the starter in the engine.

I'll go with a new one.
Yup, the starter is in a PITA location....
As for the knock sensor, I have decided to get a new one.
It's a lot of work to get at the sensor (and starter) and I'll have peace of mind knowing the new one works rather than getting a used one and not being 100% sure. I really don't want to go through the process of taking all those things out again unless I have to...so if I can make sure I don't have to anytime soon, I will...
Thanks for the info on the used sensors...
Carib.
