Got Rust?
Hello,
I was just curious to see if anyone has had any form of rust appear on their car. I've never seen a lexus with rust. My acura had rust and my previous prelude had rust. Pics would be nice.
Thanks

I have rust Around the wheel wells. If I get it sprayed, it will start to bubble & flake after 2 years.
Salt on the roads in the winter doesn't help at all.
The SC bodies are galvanised.

I'm in Toronto. =)
I agree to some extent. If you get a high quality job, sanding, priming many coats etc then the rust will probably take longer to come back. But rust is the equivalent of "car cancer" and once it starts, it won't stop.

It is less common on the SCs then most hondas from what Ive seen, but thats mostly because SC were (being at the beginning of their lives, when they cost $50k) garage kept and not driven in the winter time. Most hondas are purpose beater cars that people drive in the winter time (while their lexus is in the garage). Therefore you will notice that high end cars generally have less rust then the cheapo daily driver/beater cars.

I've got a little rust on the rear fender. The car had been sitting and there was mud up under the wheel well for who knows how long from the previous owner. I cleaned it out the day I bought the car.
Its being repaired now. There was minor rust underneath the side moldings as well but nothing like the bubbling on the passenger quarter panel.

Please, please please...
fix that rust right away. It only gets worse.
These cars are a coating chemists dream from the specialty alloys used to the zinc phos pretreatment, quality ecoat dip and high performance top coats.
Attached is a map showing areas of severe corrosion. It isn't just the salt fog from the coast or the ice melt (na, or ca) but the acid rain and 'pollution' deposited that causes the corrosion.
Anyway. Please no more rust. Save these cars for a long time.

I have only ever seen one Soarer here with rust (which was under the window trims), and these cars aren't known to rust (not there anyway). Big pity though as it had everything I was looking for (96 VVTi auto, white, Work Meisters and HKS everything done to it )
