My shifter won't engage anymore in my AT. I got home, put the car in park, and the shifter moved into park, but the tranny stayed in drive, with the indicator light in "D". Tried to restart, but it won't since it's stuck in drive (kept my foot on the brake just in case). I think the cable linking the shifter to the tranny broke? Does this sound right? Anyone know how to access this? I'm hoping if I remove the center console, there'll be a linkage point where I can access. I've done a search, but all I've found is how to remove the shift ****, and other stuff, but no instances where the shifter is disengaged from the tranny.
Ive never heard of this ever happening before. If it did happen to me the first place I would check is underneath the transmission to see if the bolt that holds the linkage together broke off or something. The actual rod that is attached to the shifter is pretty sturdy so I dont think it can be that. I'd check for broken bolts. Hopefully its not the something inside the transmission.

I suggest getting under the car. I think any linkage is on the passenger side between teh trans & the tunnel 'hump'

Sorry to hear that... I am scratching my head thinking if that happened to me and I recall that if the harness (under your shifter bezel) came loose then this could happen...
I recall this when I was swapping interiors a few times..lol
Check the harness under the bezel just in case before you start puling your hair out.

Wow, thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to pop out the center console and look @ the linkage, then if I can't spot anything, I'll try looking under the car and see if anything is loose there. This is why I love CL!!!!

No seriosuly, check the bolt on the linkage where it hooks to the tranny.. If that slid or came loose or fell off, u wont be going anywhere. Simply just loosen the bolt, put the shfiter in park, and slide the tranny into park, and tighten it.
