Default To Buy or Not to Buy?

i test drove a 96 sc300 with 84k miles today, automatic, ok condition outside, some dings on hood i think like one small one. but otherwise pretty clean. but the inside is what bothers me. the AC vents are broken(cracked) and the rear thing in the back that big panel on what the speakers sit on is got a hole in it and the material is ripped. but otherwise the leaser is clean and the carpet is clean to. the guy is asking $7000. what do you guys think? if i buy it is there anyway to get a new back panel that the speakers sit on for the inside and the AC vents in the front. because they are cracked. where would i get those from?

Those things can be fixed. Cracked vents are a common problem, I covered mine witha wood dash kit. The rear deck I'm sure could be replaced by a new one or shop the wrecking yards. The dings could possibly taken out by a paintless dent removal place....sounds like it could be a nice car, offer him 6K. Keep us posted and post pics Good Luck!

this is actually a common problem with all sc's because of air conditioning or something like taht because the cold air makes it break, thats what i just read a couple of minutes ago. does anyone know whats the part number for this piece and also the one on the right ride for a 96 sc300? or where i can get those pieses?

cracks are caused by going from hot to cold too fast and age, not by the owner

Get the wood grain kit from LGT Automotive. It'll cover those cracks and upgrade the interior. I'll post pics of mine tomorrow.

You could try TAP Recycling. I ordered one from them 3 years ago and it still has not developed any cracks.

super glue those cracks and hold them together with needle nose pliers while drying with a hair dryer, then apply the LGT kit. That is the kit I used also. Looks like a pretty clean car

I removed the vents, superglued them, wiped off excess and put them back in. If you look very closely you can see a hairline crack, but it's hardly noticable.
