Default Should i buy a 1992 SC300 for $1000

The offer seems to good to be true but this kid is going off to collage and doest want to take his car and is pretty desperate to sell. He was asking 2000 and i went and looked at it but didnt buy it. He texted me today saying he would take $1000.

1992 Sc300
110k miles
Clean title
lots of maint. records
red
Automatic
Grey interior pretty much all leather is shot. both front and rear seats.
door handles are busted x2
power steering leak
coolant loss( uknown reason but no overheating)
paint is in decent condition
guages work
AC works
AC screen is half dead

I dont need a car really. but 1000 seems like to good of an offer. or am i thinking this car is worth more than it is.

I say buy it and slowly repair it yourself. If you can't do mechanic work at all, stay away from it. Interior replacement can be cheap if you look around. The coolant and power steering fixes can be easy or a pain, but not too expensive if you do the work.

$1000 still sounds too high and the Sc probably has other issues. Increasing your repair bills over his current offer.

I would doubt the mileage validity if the interior is shot. 110 is low mileage for an SC. Should look good at 110. Take it to a mechanic for a once over. Try $500-750.

Join the Lexus site and enter the VIN to see dealer service history and verify mileage,

Yes its worth it, 1000 for a running SC with only 110k is a steal.

Carfax had smog and registration history that seemed to back up the the milage and i already pulled the lexus service records and they are consistant all the way to 78k miles all at the same dealership till 2008 after that it stopped.

still 20+ years of sitting in the sun with no tinted windows will do that in California.

"I don't need a car, really..." is not a good starting point on a car like this as described.

Takes a lot of TLC and money to get our cars to good stature so my advice is not to get involved with this one unless you are committed to bring it to the level you expect.

We will support you either way

Deep pockets, good job, mechanical knowledge, lots of time & patience, tools. If you have all of these then buy it & build it well & you'll have a very good car that is fun to drive & unique.

It might make a decent flip vehicle if you don't really need another car and you're willing to take the time/risk. I don't think the issues listed above would take a ton of time or money to correct.

I saw the title and said yes. 110k miles is low, and for a grand that's a good price. But as aforementioned, these cars aren't for soccer moms. These require time, patience, and most important of all, money. Gotta be 120% in if you are gonna fix her up.

I'd say $1000 is good, but a grey interior would probably be difficult to find parts for.

$1000 sounds like a good deal. Only thing that scares me is the coolant loss issue, could be a bad headgasket. Headgaskets are fairly easy(if time consuming) on the 2JZ, but then you have to worry about other issues like the head being warped, etc.

I'd say it's a good price, but grey interior parts will probably be hard to find.
