95 SC300 for my son?
Hi, My son is looking at a 1995 SC300 w/ 80K miles on it, 5 spd. we've had it checked by mechanic, but not a Lexus dealer. Seems solid and I gave it a drive, really liked it. Anything in particular we should look at that may be a trouble spot for this year/mileage on the SC300?
Thanks!
Thanks!
if it feals solid, it probably is. i also have a 95 5spd and the first thing i will tell you is that its a very rare car. In the world of toyota, 80k is just getting broken in. Make sure all obvious maintnence has been done, and make sure the Power steering pump isnt leaking. Buy the car!! I love mine.
Hi welcome to CL
Sounds like a nice buy. General things to look out for aesthetically are things like cracked/worn leather, torn door trims (near the speakers is very susceptable to tearing with age), blown instrument needles and various other displays. The 2JZ is usually a good motor though and these cars are quite reliable

Congrats and welcome to the CL. Seems like the car is in wonderful shape. He better enjoy it. Not many kids these day respect when they are given cars and and just abuse them. I'm not saying that you're son will. But on a serious note, If you're son is at that ripe age of 16, does he have experience with a RWD setup car? A lot of people forget that they did produce some RWD cars, and the SC doesn't have any traction control of the sorts. Make sure he gets some seat time with it, not that I'm saying that he can not drive. The car can be a bit skittish in the rain. I would hate to see a future Lexus lover lose his first taste of a true car.
