Looooong time to kick down auto idle
I previously posted about a high idle but got no response. My SC400, 1996 cranks up fine after not running for a long time but the auto idle takes about five minutes to allow me to kick it down from 1,300 to around 800 rpm's. The dealership told me this is a standard complaint but it is designed that way. I usually can't wait that long so I jam it in at that high of an idle and don't think that is a great long term idea for the health of the transmission. Is this really happening to everyone? Anyone found a reasonable "cure." Thanks in advance for your comments.

When I had starter trouble I did not drive my car for a while and my car did the same thing. It happens after I come from out of town for a week trip. It usually "warms up" in a couple of minutes at idle.
My SC also has this problem. But...I have a 5-speed, so it's not an issue. I know what you mean about the tranny tho....I used to have an automatic car with the same problem. I would just rev the engine a little bit and the idle would almost always go back to normal really fast.
