Default Various Brake Clearances

A quickie for the wisened sages on the board...

Gazi has previously posted the need for 2.75" between the rotor and rear of the spoke for proper clearance on LS upgrades. I wanted to know if that will suffice for TT upgrades as well? Also what is the required distance on the rears? Thanks in advance.

I don't know where he got that number but I have seen it many times before.

I have some 19x8 +25 wheels with 45mm of brake clearance. They clear Supra TT brakes with ease. About 2-3mm to spare.

Rears TT's are cake. You can have zero clearance and they will still clear because the TT rear calipers don't even reach the top of the rotor hat. The problem people have is that the rotors and calipers are large so most 16" wheels will not clear on the rear and no chance on the front.

I would venture to guess the early ( post 95)16" LS400 wheels would clear Supra breaks since the clear the big LS breaks.

you need what is called a high disk wheel. the face sticks out past the plane of offset on the wheel so it can accomodate the caliper. low and medium disk dont have enough backspacing.

Thanks VIPSoarer, however I was asking this question, because not all rims come in different disk fitments. Some only have one disk size and come in various offsets. The only way to know "for sure" is a direct measurement. I willl combine the offset with the measurement to see how the wheels I am looking at would work out.
