JDM Climate Controll...?

So here's a question for folks like OLT... Is the LCD display used in the stock stereo head unit the same type as is used in the climate control unit? They appear to be the same size, but I don't know if the pin-outs match. It seems like there are many head units available from folks who have chosen to switch to after-market stereos, and the prices for these units seem pretty reasonable if the displays would be suitable replacements.
I question whether the format of the displays on the LCDs for the climate control and the stereo are determined by the signals that drive the respective displays, instead of differences in the displays themselves. You notice that there are no displays (characters, icons, etc.) on the displays when they are turned off. If what you see is determined by the arrangement of "pixels" on the displays and the way they are addressed and driven, and the displays are the same in these respects, you may be able to use a LCD display removed from a factory stereo for the climate control.
I guess that 933005spd's message indicates that certain parts of the information shown on the displays are not created by turning on the appropriate pixels, but are fixed icons that are turned on and off as required. I have been trying to find a link to a site that carries the JDM climate controls for SC's mentioned in this thread, but have had no luck. Is there a site that anyone can recommend?

They are all fixed icons. The numbers are formed by 8 dashes for example. Each icon is triggered. Do you have an extra stereo LCD to play around with? It is fun.
You could also use led's and fashion your own display....
In my searches I heard from a guy in the UK that replacement sceens are available but he could not firm that up with facts.
You can get 5 custom LCD's in extended temp range specs, for $2,500 with additional LCD's for $47 in 100 pc lots. If you want their info then PM me and I am happy to forward my emails.
Right now I have too much going on to be in the LCD sale business.
However, if you figure selling the displays (remember these are BRAND NEW, extended temp range) for $100 ea then you could pocket over 2 grand on your first order. Anyway, just a thought.

I have a climate control unit that I replaced recently that can be used for parts if someone is electronically capable of fixing it. The unit's display was half-blacked out and when I tried to take it apart, one wire broke away from it's connection. I'm sure if it was soldered it would work fine. I have a 93 SC 300 with 127000 miles on it and it was the original unit. If you are interested let me know.
