After searching ( I tried "soarer lsd" , "Soarer pumpkin", "soarer differential" and a couple others) I could not find a definite answer to this.

I have an entire rear end from an Automatic Soarer, from rotor to rotor. I don't want to take it apart at the moment as I am by myself, and that sucker is heavy because its a complete rear end. I read that some Soarers came with LSD and some did not.

What is the difference between the Auto and 5 speed Soarer LSD ? In one post it stated this: "Diff code A02B indicated a Torsen LSD."

Where is this code located at on the pumpkin? If I can just check and see if the code is there then It will save me the task of tearing apart the rear end - I looked at what I could on the differential but its pretty dirty, and I didn't see it. So if I know the exact location then it will make it alot easier. If it's not an LSD then I have no use for it.

The Torsen LSD can be found if it has the fins on the back of the diff housing (unfortunately I don't have one of these )

I think the code is located on the VIN tag like some other cars I've seen. Just spin it to check for LSD. Hold one side and spin the other side or the driveshaft. If they are forced to spin no matter what, it's a DIFF!

 

I would spin it to find out - but the rear end is sitting on the ground on the rotors. And it's very heavy. I'm going to get it on a floor jack tonight (which crapped out on me yesterday) and spin it to see if its a LSD or not.

 

a Torsen will act just like an open diff if there is no force on the other wheel.
the easiest thing to do is to just open the diff cover and look.
it's only 8 bolts to remove, and changing the gear lube isn't a bad maintance idea anyway.

and both auto/manual can have it, and be used interchangably?

 

I'm not 100% sure how to tell from outside the case.
I purchased a Torsen LSD out of a supra (Just the carrier), and installed it into my stock SC400 housing.
It does fit.
I think (don't know for sure) the turbo cars which came with a factory LSD have cooling fins on the housing, not just the rear cover.
