Default Tein Basic coilover for SC400

Has anyone gotten any experiences with the Basic Tein which costs around $700? How does it ride compare to stock or Tanabe springs/Tokico shocks? If you have the experience, please describe it. I'm a little tight on budget for suspension because I'm reserving the $$ for my supercharger setup.

They rock for the price. Do it up!

I haven't experience other setups but I have on many other cars. Tein basics are just fine.

Do you think it's stiff enough for some hard cornering & turning, but not bouncy like a truck, let's say a regular Tacoma? Does the Tein Basic bottom out over dips? I actually don't want the soft ride of the stock SC; however, I don't want its over-bumps to hurt my bottom. Thanks.

The wheel and tire size you use will play a big part in how bumpy the ride is.

I find on 18s it was just fine. On 19's its a little stiffer than I would like.

If you are looking to race or auto X I would recommend some better coilovers. For aggressive street use I find them to be perfect.

That looks to be right. However, I'm not sure if the height adjustment will be the same as it's on the SC. This auction is for a Supra.

Thumbs up My Two Cents

I have a 1992 SC400 with the tein basic's and I have a 1995 SC300 with tein basics. I like them a lot. I bought mine off ebay for $712.50 and I really like them. To me, it depends on your taste because I am sitting on 18X8.5 in the front and 18X10 in the rear. I have my car pretty low so you know, the car will ride a little tighter but that is good because it does not feel like you are riding a donkey. I love them and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to lower their car.

Thanks for the info. I'm riding on 245/40/18 on Falken Z512 front & rear so I guess the ride would be similar to yours given the same suspension setup. So can I ask you if comparing to the stock suspension, is the Tein Basic very acceptable with a little stiffer in dampening or it's way more stiffer than stock? I'm sure its handling and steering are firmer and more responsive than stock. I'd like something that's a little bit stiffer than stock SC but not giving a "thump" over lane dividing round white bumps.

Does it bottom out over bumps or dips? Do the upper spring coils sit tightly under the stock rubber insulator? And if you adjust the springs to its lowest setup, do the springs drop down from the stock rubber insulator or do they still touch the rubber insulator with some tensions? Thanks again.

Default Tein basics

Steve it's John go onto the tein website to get the specs on the basic's that is what I did and made contact with one of the reps, they do look seem like the choice for our cars. When are youu planning on changing them up?

I'd just gather the ideas and info before I decide. It's because I don't want to spend $1400 for a coilover system, which is a little bit heavy for me now. And the Basic Tein price seems to be right.

I got mine from MVP. There is no tein basic for the SC but the MKIV Supra models bolts right in. Enjoy!

How does it ride? Is there any bottom-out over dips or bumps?

Rides great.

The suspension does not bottom out ever. If you put your car too low you may rub the tires on the fenders over big dips at high speeds.

So do the top spring coils sit squarely under the top rubber boots without movements? When you change lanes such as in a fast pace, does the ride feel solid and firm? The reason I'm asking a lot because I've had bad experience with the coilover sleeve type on Honda, with the top spring coils tend to move a little during hard cornering. Thanks.
