Question about the Oil Light
Thanks for the info guys. I always add oil once I see the light. I only asked because I wanted to know how close to "danger" I am. If I burn 1 quart of oil for every 3000 miles I don't mind that much but if I burn 4 quarts of oil by 3000, that gets me a little worried.

Why are you seeing the oil light in between oil changes? I change oil every 5000 miles and NEVER once have I seen the amber colored light in the tachometer.

And Project, I gave you no attitude bro, don't take it that way. It's text based communications, all I ask is not to post incorrect info as it may adversely affect someone else's car

I agree. I'm just turning 188k probably today and I tend to burn roughly 1/2 quart of oil between my 4000 mile oil changes. According to the manual, some small "eating" of the oil is to be expected.
yeah, mine is not real high in miles, 103k, but it is 13 years old.
to be fair though, I dive about 100mi a day to work and it is all high speed (70 - 90mph) driving. From what I have read, constant high speeds and rpms eat oil a little faster than city driving.
**NOTE** I read that info in the owners manual for an '05 Camry....NOT in my cars manual. So I'm not sure if it's even applicable. But the way it was worded it seemed to generalize this as a trend for all engines.
That said, I'm not worried about the oil consumption.
