Default High Flow Cats in Cali

So the 'pinging' sound is really getting on my nerves. And I've got an inkling that my cats are probably pretty clogged...a bunch of little things kinda giving me that notion...smell, sound, poor mpg, a little less power than I would expect...

I want to replace my cats with high flow cats, but I had a couple of questions for those of you who have done so already:

1. where / who did u gets yours from? how much? what brand? any place local in So Cal?

2. for those of you in Cali - did you have any problems with smog after replacing?

3. did you guys replace all 3 cats with high flows?

4. did it get rid of the pinging? I've read in a couple other threads that replacing the cats solved the pinging noise issue, but just wanted to double check...

TIA for reponses!

In Cali the only year you can go to hi flow cats are 92 and older, every other year (93+) has to be replaced by OEM cats, no aftermaket cats.

What pinging sound are you talking about? When the car is cooling or when you are driving?

The pinging is after I turn the car off, when it's cooling down. According to another thread that I read, it's the junk in the cats that's making the sound, etc.

How come we can't switch to high flow cats for 93+? Is that a law or something?

Nah thats just all the metal and heatshielding on the exhaust contracting as it cools down. Does it really bother you THAT much???

Cloud9 - thanks for that thread...much help on the topic =)

/Aerostar\ - yeah, kinda getting on my nerves now...but that was just one of the reasons...i do wanna replace my cats, and get a true x-piping...better performance, and to (hopefully) get rid of my exhaust smell (it's not running rich, already checked for that...)
