Default 97+ front bumper opening?

Hi,

The lower front opening of my car looks like the one pictured on right (cropped image from another CL member). Notice the vertical slats are painted bodycolor. On some other cars, those vertical slats are black (left car). I was wondering if anyone knows if those black slats are unpainted/painted black. Or are there some covers/clips that go over them?

yeah paint them flat black, cut them out, or use black electrical tape.

painting gets my first vote though

I masked off my bumper and painted mine with trim black. Easy and gets the job done.

DO NOT cut them out. Those vertical bars are for strength and bumper integrity. If you cut them out that middle bar will most likely sag and then you'll have that to deal with. Just paint them if it bothers you that much.

after a tow truck cracked my old 97+ front bumper the company had to buy me a new one, I have cut out the whole center section of the new bumper for a FMIC but it needs to be painted before it will go on my car and right now all my extra money is going towards the engine build. I will post pics of the final product when it is finished.

Folks, I was washing the car today and was getting ready to paint those vertical slats. Upon closer inspection they're actually clip on covers!

I only noticed because one of them was kinda loose. Check out the pix.

sorry to get a little off topic...but has anyone painted the grill on their 92-96 SC? the same part that is being discussed...but on the older ones, it's all black...anyone try painting it to match their body paint? I wonder how that would look....

The body shop painted my grill the body color, looks good, but I've been trying to think of something a little more distinctive since the frontend is a little bland compared to the rest of the car, and needs something to set it off.
Maybe a handmade stainless shell or something...
