I have an auto SC300, but by habit and personal preference, anytime i put my car into P, i pull the e-brake. Recently, as I've been pulling it up, I hear a pretty loud squeak coming from the car. I never used to hear this before, but it's pretty loud now. Today as I got out of the car after pulling the e-brake (to which i heard this sound) I noticed the car make the same squeak as I pulled myself out of the car. So i went to the back of the car, and gave it a firm push. Sure enough, same squeak, and the tire seemed to move ever so slightly forwards, and back in place. Everytime i give it a little push, i hear this squeak which lasts about half a second. What is going on with my e-brake? Is this squeak a sign that it may be failing?
I read in a search about a parking brake cable, but I'm not sure where this located or how to lubricate the cable.
I know on my car there's a, how do I put this, a "brake-shoe-looking" type of pad that works in conjunction with the e-brake. I needed to change this to stop my e-brake from squeaking. Hope this helps
Thanks Mike, I will check it out this weekend. You wouldn't happen to have a picture of this crazy "brake shoe" would ya?
No, but I'll try to describe it from what I remember. We were changing my rotors and one of them was siezed on there. We took a rubber mallet and banged on the damn thing until it came loose, when the rotor was pulled off there was a half-moon shaped brake pad (looked like those old brake "shoes") covered in rust and crap. That's what was cauing the noise from my e-brake. My buddy (who's more mechanically inclined than myself) told me that the brake pad had frozen in place while engaged and was causing the squeaking sound when I drove. When we changed that one part it made the noise go away. Hope this helps
