What is the top speed of a 92 SC300? I have gotten it up around 120 and it just doesn't want to go anymore. I heard that it is limited to like 140 or sumthing, but i know that thats not the problem b/c when i hit the speed limiter in my moms 4runner (its only at 110 ), it slowed drastically to like 100 in no time. My SC just feels like it wants to stay at 120, even when i have the pedal to the floor and AC turned off.

141 in mine
On highway 395 (extraterrestial highway), I hit 141 with my 1992 SC300 auto. Only mods were a KNN drop in filter and a Magnaflow cat back exhaust. It took a while to hit that speed and the temp was 39 degrees F. so im sure that helped a little. If your out at 120 something is wrong.

Not sure about the SC300, but I seemed to peak at an indicated 250km/hr (155mph) in a '92 SC400 (cold conditions, some tailwind). This was drag limited as there was another 1000 rpm to go in fourth.

I had my car at redline in top gear(auto) and the speedo indicated a little over 140 mph. Felt real stable too.

This was in California on the 210 just outside of la verne, where there are no cars after 1 am. i have a 5 sp sc 300

On a normal Autobahn the Top Speed is about 142-145mi.
When the Autobahn is a little bit downhill the top speed will reach the 150mi.(with AC off)
But then the tach shows 6200rpm.
My car is a SC300 MT.

I've gotten my 92 SC300 up to 180mph or so and it was still pulling hard. I think I might have a factory ringer or something because it just feels faster than my 97.

I've been 146 in my SC4 charging forward and I'm positive I could've gotten to 150 or so...(how much does exhaust/intakes help on the top end...) I've also seen 177 in a certain black Vette searching for higher grounds.

Well my speedo said about 144 but I had a Hawk radar in the car and it said 140. (My father is a state trooper). He calibrated the radar afterwards, and said it was my speedo that was off. It was about 1mph off at 90, so it seems the upper end of gearing isn't calibrated well for. I'm putting 18's on the car next week, new exhaust tomorrow, and intake stuff next week, so I'll have to test again then and see the difference.

Many things will affect top speed. Vehicle condition (mileage, tune, tranny condition, tire inflation). Fuel quality can alter the output on knock sensor equipped cars. 5 speeds will have more HP at the wheels than an auto and therefore have about a 15hp edge. Altitude is important, as you go higher above sea level power drops off. Air temperature is another power factor. Of course a head wind is not helpful. Damaged catalytic converters will rob power. Wider than factory tires will increase aero drag. ALL that said, as a car approaches its terminal (drag limited) velocity, its rate of acceleration slows considerably. What were the conditions?

Well, i am usually going this fast on my way to school and its around 7 in the morning. The temp is cool. I have an auto w/ 15" chrome rims. There are a few slight up and downs, so this probably affected the speed, and there is one medium length gradual turn. Im gonna drive it tom. and see if i can get it going faster.

If u live in the Nashville area, I'm talking about HIghway 100.

And if you're really trying to just find out your top speed, take some masking tape and tape up all the seams around headlights, bumper, etc on the front of the car. You'd be amazed. Road & Track did this do a Corvette C5, and they gained 4mph on the top speed!

(and don't use masking tape in direct sunlight...it's a bear to get off when it's been baked on )

I can only get around 20 seconds of acceleration out of her...Then it cuts off. around 148mph. Needs longer legs.

While we're on this topic....does anyone know of a place in the south-east US that has a track to test top speeds on? I have yet to find a place where I can pay a fee and go drive my *** off....
