I recently purchased a 92 SC300 with 135k miles on it. I noticed that the car shifts kinda hard into 1st 2nd and so forth while driving. The differential and tranny oil has been replaced by a Lexus dealership @ 81k miles, as shown on the service receipt. Its kinda like a jolt on a manual car. Is this a sign that some sorta transmission failure is imminent? Im stressing hard. Thanks

 

Toyota recommends fluid changes every 30k miles...

 

I know what you mean. My car has about 225k and I have that same jolt between gearshifts. I hope it holds out. When I race I shift the gears and Ive been doing it since Feb when i first got the car. Everything still seems normal. Its those V8 transmissions Im more worried about.

flush the tranny fluid... dont' just change... flush it. it made a big difference on my 400. like if i stomp on it now, the upshift is quicker instead of a moment before it actually goes. also jspec, i heard it was bad to manually shift an auto... not to mention slower too. i remember i saw one of those car shows where two teams are given a given amount of time and to put in mods to a car. both teams have same cars, same mods but it all depends on timing of install.. anywyas one team decided to manually shift the auto and the other team just stomped on it..... the team that stomped on it won easily. just fyi.

 

Adjust your tv (also known as the kickdown)cable. If that doesnt work flush it

 

How much should a flush cost?

Any recommended spots in So Cal, OC preferably, that would do a decent job for a good price?

 

I flushed it and it really made no difference. I noticed that its more pronounced when I give it little throttle. However, when I give it more gas right before the shift it shifts wayy smoother. Could it be a bad tranny mount?

 

Sorry I can't help you out here, my gearbox has gone further than that... it slips in 2nd, and it won't shift from 1st to 2nd when it's cold

 

Well, unlike us poor Americans with the naturally aspirated engines, you guys over there are prolly going all out over there with ur turboed cars

Ok, this is making me worried. Does replacing the motor and tranny mount help? Or does using the Toyota Type 4 fluid in the SC300 help?

 

I went to a Toyota Dealership to buy the Type4 oil and it costed 4.50/ quart (I need 12 for the flush machine).

Before switchin from Dextron to Type 4 (I flushed it out with Dextron a month ago and it didnt help much), is the type4 worth it in a SC300 that requires Dextron ???

Or should I spend money on the mounts and hope that it would shift smoother???

Anyway, your 2JZ is coupled to an A340E auto right? They were designed by Toyota to run on Dexron III. Some people have noticed hard shifting on Dexron III and switched to T-IV fluid as you stated and have come with smoother changes... I dunno if that's the deal with mine too though as my clutches need replacing, plus one of the transmission seals has either shrunken or hardened over time, not letting me shift from 1st to 2nd when cold.

Have you checked your line pressure as well?

I don't think it's the fluid. I think your shift actuator is bad.
