I think the reason the tach doesnt work when you do the 1jz swap is diff signal differences on the engines or the soarer cluster uses diff voltage

Distributor to Coil is my guess why it doesn't work. Or analog dash to digital one or the other. I really didn't care. I have a 5sp with a 1JZ running an auto ECU. No check engine lights.

So if I used a manual 1JZ computer, will I still have gauge problems? Could someone who is running one in their sc please leave feedback on this.

IIRC the 2jz-gte and 1jz-gte tachs pull their signal from the cam position sensor or maybe its the lead coil. There's only one coil on the GE motor so the GE tachs look for a different signal.

The tach adapter basically takes this signal and converts to a signal the GE gauge cluster can read.

YES. The ECU you use has no bearing on having or not having gauge problems, only your startup.

After reading through this whole thread, obviously the tach problem has been sorted out, and we know the fix, but what about the water temp? Can anyone expand on this....

i have a 330 ohm resistor wired into my harness on the orange plug...i think its pin 9...id have to check my diagram to be sure but i think its the yellow with green wire. it keeps the needle a little too low...i'd say about 3/8 of the gauge and it should be 1/2...i think 300 ohm is the one to use...just havent had a chance to get one yet...my local radio shack was out of those.

having to lay upside down to do anything under the dashboard is a pain in the a$$...but i had the throttle cable changed out for the new one in like 5 minutes. ok maybe 10. it'd be nice if the new cable was a little longer tho...it barely reaches the bracket.

yeah i was just about to post on that... i pulled on it and hooked it up, but the throttle semed to not work right, maybe bad wire placement... i dont like how much tension u gotta put on that thing, i either might find a way to get another 1/4in out of it, or air freight a soarer one from austraulia and deal with the lenght...

i can either mount the bracket from out in the engine bay or take off that big rubber thing and keep it inside, i think that will give me the lenght i need
