Guys,

I am bringing my car in to get it dyno tuned with my Apexi S-AFC.

I am wanting to install and intake and a grounding kit before I do it though as I want my settings on the S-AFC to be accurate.

Anything else I should consider doing that may make a change before I get it tuned?

I have just done my full exhaust, so grounding kit and intake are all I can think of that are not expensive.

looks like an engine related question to me

 

clean/change/check gap on spark plugs, clean the injectors, oil change and you should be str8

 

Grounding kits are a waste of money. Save your money. Just my .02. Just make sure it runs good, that's all you need to do. Most likely all there will be to do on the AFC is lean it out a tad to make that extra 5 whp that's in it. When I was dynoing mine for fun, it was quite rich, but didn't seem like there'd be a significant amount of fuel I could take out that would make a reasonable amount of power. I see it in all the cars that come in to do basic n/a afc tunes.

 

Well I need to replace my negative battery cable anyway so I was jsut going to go with the whole kit.

So you think the S-AFC only makes 5 whp?? That sucks - I was hoping for a little more than that

Something I'd have a look at as well is inspecting/replacing the O2 sensor. I think mines faulty lol so I need that replaced before fitting in an S-AFC, check air filter too (unless you've already done that).

you guys should really do a search.

on a 92 SC400 S-AFC tuned to very safe levels will yield 10rwhp in 90% of the fuel curve and 15rwhp on some spots.

don't guess when the answer is out there.

 

I have SAFC installed on so many cars, but I fried my first 92 SC400's main ECU and Fuel pump ECU within 1 month after I put it in... and trust me, I know how to tune SAFC because I have it in 3 other cars before... and I only tuned my last SC400 fuel CORR with in +- 3%!!!! Now I have another 95 SC, and guess what, I am NOT putting it in!!

 

I'm sorry about the frying main ECU and fuel pump ECU within 1 month after you put it in.

I think that's a very rare case.

I've had mine on my 92 SC400 since 10-11-03. Since then I've put in something around 40k miles on my car.

So what made you correct your fuel within + - 3%? how did you know if you needed to add or take out fuel? Gauges? wideband? dyno?


my settings are
Hi-Throttle settings
1000RPM = -3%
2000RPM = -4%
2500RPM = -5%
3000RPM = -6%
4000RPM = -8%
5000RPM = -9%
6000RPM = -10%
6500RPM = -9%

Lo throttle settings
1000RPM = -2%
2000RPM = -3%
2500RPM = -4%
3000RPM = -5%
4000RPM = -7%
5000RPM = -8%
6000RPM = -9%
6500RPM = -8%

I'm not saying that you don't know what you are doing but i think you may have shorted something out for the main ECU and fuel ECU to both get shorted out. Or the car had electrical problems to start with.

needless to say I've had no problems with my main or fuel ECU or anything else in the car.

 

I'd have to agree with VSsc400, there is no way to know how much hp an SAFC is going to do any car until you put it on and properly tune it to that vehicle. 2 of the same vehicles of the same year can vary in Hp by up to 10 - 15hp,... so right there begins the first of many possible variants.

As stated, in a search you find I gained like 20 hp and 24 ft lbs of torque in certain rpm's and 2 or 3 hp gains in other areas,.. so don't get caught up in peak power gain,.... be more concerned with driveable / usable hp, which is not at redline.

 

Well, I guess probably the car has problem to begin with since I have put the SAFC in couple other cars I had before and had no problem. But anyway, this is my 3rd SC and I don;t know how long I will keep it, I don;t feel like risking it to put in the SAFC, should put SAFC up for sale soon, (Hint Hint)... I don;t know how much I should ask for the SAFC, anyone wants it can give me a PM..

 

I got my S-AFC in mint condition, in original box with original manuals with the stand for $200 or $220 shipped (from MA to CT) about 2 years ago.
