S-AFC for my car ???
i have a gs400. currently i have K&N FIPK intake, Greddy PE catback exhaust, TC (2800), 3.67 torsen LSD. with the mods i have is it worth wild to get a S-AFC?? i've been reading GS 400 tend to run richer and if it leans out alittle it will gain slight amount of power and also the S-AFC will help the K&N intake work more efficiently. and i know either i will need a a/f reader or i will have to go dyno shop. i just want to know what kind of gains can i be looking at?
Also will the S-AFC be enough if i plan on going nitrous (max 100 shot) or will it be better to have a piggy back or something.

This thread should give you an idea what to expect Shane.

If you install the SAFC and get it tuned....you will "realisticly" gain about 15-20HP or so. With the SRT intake, it comes with a pretuned A/F map. Similar to the SAFC but it's already preset, and SRT claims it is a 30HP/40TRQ increase but I think their numbers are a little too wishful.
As for the nitrous...I'm not too sure about that, but I don't think the SAFC has a separate setting for it. My friend runs nitrous like crazy and his kit came with some kind of controller for it.

yep thats one of the thread i looked at during my search. is his gains considered impressive or mediocre?
JeffTsai:
i am down to get a extra 15-20hp for less then $500
tuning should take more then 1 or 2 hrs right?

Shane,
You are forgetting some important points. Namely, the GS will not let you tune to partial throttle like most other cars will. The GS ecu will revert back to its own settings, therefore your gains at partial throttle will be minimal.
At WOT is where it will matter. However, I don't know your driving style so I don't know how often you are there.
You will have to cut and splice into your ECU - something I have decided I won't ever do again.
I wouldn't say you would get more than 10rwhp on the car. So factor that plus at least 4-5 pulls on a dyno and look at the overall cost.

bitkahuna's should be very similar - I believe he had the K&N and 3.76 LSD, L-tuned exhaust at the time of that dyno.
i bought and install for $500 already
this weekend i'm putting out another $200-$300 for tuning
i'm pretty sure the dyno sheet won't that
Dyno place said at most 15hp gain and they will take care of my bogging problem.
if u want,i'll post my dyno sheet after this weekend

Having the power only be present at WOT will actually fit my driving style. drive slow normally until someone wants to race.
so now i'm looking at $700 for max 15 hp (if even 15hp). huh?!
i will need to put more thought in it.
Tommy if you can, it will be great if you can post the Dyno. interested in taking a look of the gains. thanks!

You should be able to get one for $200-$250. Install took me about 10 minutes. I believe there are only 5-6 wires that you splice in and only one is actually cut. You should be able to get your tuning done for $100. SO I would say realistically $300-400 for it.

i didn't want to redline.
DynoExtreme e-mail me my dyno chart, but i'm having problem opening the page. i'm lacking a program. try to open file later after work

I'm running with the K&N, Headers, & Exhaust (+ 3.76) - tuning the SAFCII at the dyno gained me minimal HP and actually lost TQ. That's not the whole story though - the darn car heat soaked so fast (and stayed hot) on the dyno we had to cool down between every run - made it tough to tune and ate up dyno time just sitting there. Others have had better luck on the dyno. I think my next step will have to be an onboard AF reader so that I can capture and tune based on real world driving.
How many files do you have?
zyou probaby should have gone to redline it not that much more past 5k rpm. It might be hard to get a consistant reading stopping at 5k rpm
