Accident Question

Angry Accident Question

What Up,

I was out driving and it was snowing out pretty bad. Im going around a corner and i start to slide out. I tried to gain control but lost it and hit a curb doing about 10 - 15 mph. The front right wheel is bent inwards and the car veers to the right when driving.

My question is could i just put the car up on jacks and bend the wheel back or should i bring it to my mechanic and have him fix it. Also how much would something like this cost to be fixed.

Umm in no way should you try to bend it back to normal, you cannot possibly fix anything by doing that. If something has been bent which obviously has, you have to either have a mechanic look at it or just replace the part. Because even if you get it to look like it did before your lil accident, there is no way you can say the car is completely fixed. You will always have steering problems; tread wear issues and a whole list of things that could go wrong.

This is not something you can fix yourself.

Sounds to me like you have bent your contol arm most likely lower, or both upper and lower.It is downright dangerous to be driving it the way it is.
.
Best to take it to a mechanic or an alignment shop and have that whole area checked out.

The least you will need will be a wheel alignment.
Hopefully you have not bent your control arms.
They are expensive.

how much do control arms cost? aren't they like $150?
daizen sells better ones than oem right?

if your control arms are damaged, i would just get daizen and then its not really a total loss if you had plans on doing this already.

same thing happend to my rear wheel on my corolla when i got into an accident. it just had a bent axle and got it bent back and re aligned. Even if you could bend it back yourself there is no way you can re align it accurately. Best go to the shop. Also the control arm may have bent. Thats what happened to my friends car he had to bend something back and get a new control arm since you cant bend those back. best route would be to get new front supra control arms if your arm is bent they about 200 a peice new. another bad thing is you bent the wheel in the front so i dunno if it affected the steering in anyway so better check that out at the shop.

Do as these guys say. There is no way you just bend something back. Have it looked at by a mechanic to see what the damage is. Could be control arms, could be the wheel. You just don't know until someone gets it on a lift. You may be able to buy the parts and do the work yourself to save some $$$ and then have it aligned at a shop. Good luck.

Lexus control arms: $500+ each
Daizen does not make control arms, just the bushings...(those are $100 a set), better than OEM? In some ways yes, in some ways no. "Better" in the sense of being cheaper than OEM bushings and they will last much longer than OEM bushings...but the ride comfort definitely is not better and there's the possibility of them squeaking if not installed and lubed properly.

If your control arms are damaged then you may also opt for the Supra arms as they're half the price of the Lexus arms, but keep in mind your car won't ride exactly the same because you've now put Supra components into your suspension.

worst come to worst:
Lower and upper control arms
cross-member
rack and pionion
and an aligment
should not be over 2000.00( Last time it happened on me when I drifting my 240sx, I had all those damage and paid 1600.00)

Default Lower Control Arm

Alright,

I brought the car to the mechanic, was looked at and the lower control arm needs to be replaced. He called for the part and said that it would be about 600 for a new one but he could also get a used one for around 250. My question is would it be okay to use the used one and how long do the arms last for?? Im strapped for cash and need to know if using the used one is a bad idea.

Obviously a new one is better. If you are strapped for cash and can't afford the extra $350 for a new one then just be sure that the bushings and ball joint are in good shape. Your mechanic will be able to check this out before it goes on the car. If it checks out then you will be fine. Good luck with your car.

cal, send a PM to Aliga. He seems to always have a spare parts car laying around and may be able to help. When I bent 2 pieces of my rear suspension last year he hooked me up.
