Hi, this might not be approperate for this board but I thought I might as well go ahead and ask. Which valve is larger, the intake or exhause valve? and is it different in lets say a carborated engine? And then why is this so? Thanks.

 

The exhaust valves are larger on the JZs, but im not sure about any other engines.

 

Out of hundreds of different engines, I've yet to see exhaust valve area that was larger than the intake valve area in a given engine.

 

The intake valve(s) is/are always larger than the exhaust. This is due to the fact that the exhaust pressure is so much higher than the intake. The smaller exhaust is all that is needed for a given amount of intake.

Of course all Lexus engines use 2 intake and 2 exhaust valves per cylinder. The ratio is for total area.

hehe. Yeah, I am hitting the books. That was one of the questions on the final report in our enginering class. We disected an engine and put it back together. For our final report we have to explain how things work and why. That was one of the questions... ah... the insanity of the week before finals week.

 

Sounds like a cool class. I still haven't lowered my car yet which is why I haven't sent you pics. We'll probably take pics at the meet this weekend and you can check those out. There should be a ton of cool cars there, I'm looking forward to it. Good luck with your exams
