Default rear spoiler

Hey CL members, has anyone installed a rear lip spoiler on their SC? I did a search and did not come up with anything, I just purchase one and wanted to know if there was an easier way to do it. What is the proper way to drill into the trunk without the paint chipping?
Thanks

the paint will not chip when u drill into the trunk. And it wouldnt really matter anyway cuz the spoiler will cover up any hole you drill or blemishes in the paint you make. Its a pretty difficult spoiler to install if your not good as such things but i guess theres plenty of room for error since you can pretty much drill the holes as large as you wish, but not too large. just make sure u get a good estimate the first time. Your better off bringing it to a shop to install if you dont want to go through the headache of getting the holes perfect. My shop quoted me 25 bucks for the install, not too bad.

but if you do decide to go at it urself then the way i do it is i line up the spoilers left and right bottom edge with the sides of the trunk lid. then i know exactly where the spoiler should sit. Marking the exact drill points is little more difficult. I just stick some clay on the trunk and line up the spoiler where it should be and it imprints holes into the clay. and i drill from those marks. its usually not perfect the first time but a little widening of the holes usually hits the mark. wiring the led is easy just run 2 wires to the tail lights and splice into the white/black(ground) wire and red/yellow(brake light power) wire.

Yea I'm with OLT. I installed a Spoiler Depot 92 style lightless on my SC and it's easy.

It comes with setting punches that you screw into the screw holes. It's a screw with a sharp point. You set the spoiler where you want it, PRESS DOWN HARD, and lift off. The punches clearly leave depressions where you need to drill. Unscrew the punches, install spoiler and done.

Idiot-proof.

Everyone's not as mechanically inclined and you guys Jose and Brian...and if he's not mechanically inclined I suggest he takes his car to a shop and pay them the $30 or so they'll charge to do it right. Some of the easiest things are easily screwed up believe it or not...

good luck homies in all of your spoiler adventures!

its actually easier if you drill 3 holes anywhere on the trunk.. then have someone hold the spoiler in place and go from the inside and mark 3 spots on the bottom of the spoiler through the holes in the trunk.. then take the spoiler off and drill 3 holes on there.. slap it back on and throw on the correct size screws.. thats how i did mine..

What do you mean by just drilling "anywhere" on the trunk?

what do you think? you're just trying to be a smart *** aren't you mike? haha.. let me be more specific so mike can be happy (unless he really doesn't get it)... drill 3 holes, spread out on the trunk that you know the spoiler will cover.. and blah blah blah so on and so forth (read my above post if you haven't already)

I think what Mike is asking is why you would drill random holes into a spoiler when usually they come with reinforced mounting bosses specifically placed to screw in a machine screw.

This is how my spoiler depot 92 style wing came. It requires you to drill the holes in the trunk to match the bosses on the underside of the wing. You then screw it from the underside with the supplied machine screws.

Not to hijack this thread but will the older style spoiler cover up the holes on the 97 & up ones. I have the new style and want the older one instead.
