What do you guys think about the Mark VIII?
I was on 95 towards Boston last night and I seen the Lincoln and the Mustang driving pretty fast, I can tell they were freinds of eachother. And they both wanted a peice of me!!
I have 160k on my 92, 15k of those miles were put on since last September. Only mods are the 17" wheels, the exhaust and the Eibach's. I just mashed it, next thing you know me and the Mark are at 130mph he's a few cars lengths behind me we both left the Mustang in the dust, but the Mark VIII was gaining!!
We were both at 135 at this time and he was gaining pretty quick until we noticed traffic ahead so I backed off, if it weren't for the traffic he would have past me for sure. Is this normal for the Mark VIII? or is it because I have so many miles on my 92? his car was at least a 97-99.
Regardless he gave me a thumbs up, the mustang must have been a V6 but I was sure it wasn't because of the duals... he just couldn't keep up. That was the fastest I ever went in my Lex, and I'm surprised of the excellent handling. What you guys think?

Tested in Car&Driver in late '91, the SC400 had a higher top speed, close in acceleration, but, the MarkVIII may have gotten more powerful since then and there a lots of cheap mods for that engine, including a chip with no speed limiter.
However, in the twisties the MarkVIII doesn't stand a chance. It's airbag suspension is tough to change and doesn't handle very well. I can never convince my friend to autocross his '95 MarkVIII against my '92 SC400.
BTW I beat most of the f-bodies that show up for autocross (note: tight circuit).

Before I purchased my SC, I had a Mark VIII. They have around 290 - 300 hp, and can be moded for a lot cheaper than the lex. I had some problems with the trans. They have a 300 hp motor pushing a 200 hp trans. The overall quallity is not there like the lex. It was a good bang for the buck. Stock for stock the lex would out handle the Mark. I wish we had a site like www.markviii.org. Some of the guys have some really nice and fast marks. You guys would go nuts over what these guys are getting out of $2,500 worth of mods.
