BFI & CA Smog Test
Technically, I don't think you're supposed to modify the intake system, but as a practical matter, I doubt if a tech would fail a car just because of a BFI, especially if the car otherwise passes the smog test. The BFI is less of a mod than adding a cone air filter, and there are thousands of those out there. If cars equipped with those were not passing smog tests, we'd have heard about it.
Most of those that did the BFI report that they get better MPG, so the California Smog Board should encourage the BFI !

Has anyone with BFI been able to pass the smog test? I have a 2000 sc400 with BFI in Southern California and don't know if it will pass.
If yes, please let me know which gas station in southern california near diamond bar?

Old thread I know, but has anyone else had positive/negative/moot experiences with California smog tests and their BFI 2/3 modification?
I'm planning to do this but not if I am going to be failed for smog even with an OEM-looking top cover.
