I got a 97 sc300 and want to change the color of my taillights. Any suggestions and a tutorial would be appreciated.

To obtain the best results, take the tailights to the bodyshop and have them spray them candy red. That is if you are willing to spend the money.

NNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!! The 97' lights don't need to be changed. They look great the way they are.

paint is testor's candy apple red transparent (#1605). i found it at hobby lobby and michael's. supposedly, other members even have seen it at wally world in the toy department.

either disassemble the lights or just mask off everything...3 light coats...DONE!
2 hours work max.

on the gs board, there is someone selling tint film, might want to try that if you are shy about spraying your car.

Thumbs up

It's good to see the old school testor's trick making a come back. I totally forgot about doing that, and was stuck on wanting red with clear turn signals, but will be content with having all red tails.

Another piece of advice would be to spray clearcoat on as well after the tails have dried. The candy apple transparent tends to lose it's color and starts to wear off after all the carwashes and weather.

That's why you should paint the INSIDE of the lens

Only the early models. Later models have removeable internal lenses that you can pop out to paint or clear.
