Not sure about the years but I like the top one a lot better, minus the ghetto stitching.

Top cover is for an airbag equipped Soarer. Bottom cover is for a non-airbag equipped Soarer (most likely an early 2.5 TT model).

just found out that the top one is on a 91 2.5tt soarer and i think its not a differance in models (later/newer) but in airbags (with/without)

Yup, I believe that was the only year w/out an airbag, which is the same as the '92 here, after that they all had them (foreign market '92-up, US market '93-up)

Hey guys,

The top steering wheel is off the airbag equipped Soarers, whether it be a 2.5GT, 4.0GT-L, or 3.0GT while the bottom pic is of the non-airbag models (2.5GT, 4.0GT, 3.0GT).

Just to expand on the post, an airbag was available as an option to the 2.5GT series as well as the 3.0GT series, most V8's had an airbag (except for the base model 4.0GT), and there hasn't been any changes to the steering wheel throughout the production life of the xZZ3x Soarers, unlike in the USA (where you got the 3-spoke in whichever year it was, 97?).

I have a perfect Soarer grey airbag cover and have tried to find someone in the USA who want's to trade.

I'm looking for a black Lexus airbag if possible and will have the steering wheel colour changed to suit. I expect that anyone who want's mine could also have the Soarer airbag colour changed to black, brown or whatever to match their interior.

Anyone out there interested?

Didn't the '92 SC in the US have at least a driver's side airbag? I thought it was just the passenger side SRS that was added in '93.

That still doesn't explain which year had the steering wheel air bag.

siniquezu,
Are you reffering to the Soarer steering wheel? If so, an airbag was standard on the 4.0GT-L (LTD, Limited, whatever) Soarer since it's release in 1991. A couple of 2.5GT-TL's had an airbag as well (mine included).

Soarer_25GTT, What year did they discontinue the non airbag soarer steering wheel. I don't think Lexus ever had a non-airbag steering wheel for the SCs right?
