code 31 mass airflow sensor
About the middle of May my car went down with a severe miss fire. Now the 7th shop I've taken the car I've finally gotten somewhere. They actually read the CEL .OBD1 code which was 31-Mass Airflow Sensor. Most shops here didn't even bother dealing with an obd1 car. Most have never seen an SC400. This shop said they were pretty sure that is the problem and told me a new one thru them would cost $500, but I could find one online for 50-100$. Would a bad mass airflow sensor cause severe misfire?
I've looked on eBay and just as they said found some in that price range.
The car has been so bullet proof I've hardly ever had to look for parts. If you can believe this the car for the most part is still running its OEM parts
Any suggestions on what to do? (besides move to a big city) ha ha. Anyway that ain't goin to happen, I moved here from San Francisco.
To fill out this story one place said they found the problem and fixed it but fired up the car and still had the misfire. Didn't charge much labor and told me to come back. Couple of days later and told me changing spark plugs will do the job. I did have a lot of miles, thought it can't hurt. Fired up the car, still had the misfire, charged me for the plugs labor. Went to a shop said they'll try new coils. Put it back together, still misfired. Then to a few other places, no luck and 2 moths later and a lot of heartache, here I am.
thanks
