I know that finding a factory airbag setup on the RX330 is quite rare (although almost bought a Japanese import which had this equipment spec'd. Didn't buy as the nav couldn't be converted at a reasonable cost). Anyway, my question is where is the air suspension cylinder or the location where the air suspension cylinder would go? It obviously is not in the boot as the cargo area is left untouched, must be underneath somewhere. I'm thinking that if I ever got air suspension on the RX (when I get one later this year), there is obviously a factory location somewhere underneath that you could fit the cylinder into. Thoughts?

 

I thought the air suspension model had to be special order so would the uni body be slightly different to allow space for the air cylinder ?? I would like to know too thanks for bringing this question up draco

 

dont bother retrofitting yours to have air ride, jsut buy an RX with air ride.

there is more to it than just 4 airbags and a cylinder,

there is alot of wiring, as well as control modules, and not to mention a new dash cut out and switch.

just buy one with it

 

If it were available to buy one then that would be great. Here in Australia, I don't think it was really an option that most people bothered with. Also from what I have read, it is extremely rare to find one with it. I also will not buy a JDM spec as it would cost an arm and a leg to change the nav unit to English from Japanese (not as simple as press button to change to English and then software update). Wiring can always be hidden and the switch can always be located to another spot away from the main dash

It would be interesting to find out where the JDM RX's store their compressor for the air cylinder. Anyone have any clues?

 

The USDM air suspension compressor is located on the rear right side under the bumper. I would think that the JDM would be on the same side since its location is not RHD/LHD dependent.

I am not sure if it has an air cylinder as it raises the suspension on-demand by actuating the compressor and lowers it by bleeding the air from the 'bags'. Hope this helps.

The repair manual has some detailed info on the operation of the system.

 

The Lexus New Car Features Manual has an illustration that shows the "Pneumatic Tank" located approximately under the driver's (left hand) seat.

The manual states "The pneumatic tank which temporarily stores the exhaust air from the pneumatic cylinders (i.e. air springs) contributes in reducing the length of time that is required for lowering the vehicle height."

 

^ you are right. I looked under the car today and saw a tank ~2' long and 4" in diameter under the driver side.
