Question loose plastic underneath car

Hey guys,

I have been driving lately and i start hearing a rattling sound. So I started investigating and I found the vertic. It is from a plastic moulding underneath the car. I looked underneath and I saw that there is some adhesive that is supposed to keep it from moving.

The rattling sound only comes after 50+ mph. This s because the wind hits it and it hits the underside of the car.

Location: Follow the seem where the driver side door and rear door meet....follow that down and under the car there is a cup shaped plactic there to protect something ( dont know exactly what it is).

I was wondering if anyone here had that problem and what adhesive should I used to put it back on there.

Thanks for the input in advance

Use some double sided foam tape to adhere it to the undercarriage. Use some rubbing alcohol to clean both surfaces first. it is a common problem & an easy fix. I did mine about 6 months ago and the noise has not returned. There is a DIY for this if you wanted to search this forum.

There is a Service Bulletin describing your problem. Attached is the bulletin. Take it to Lexus and get it replaced for free.

Do you mean the big (2'x2') plastic tray the covers the bottom of the transmission?

I had some yo hos at Jiffy lube replace the thing incorrectly during a routine oil change. It flapped whenever I went faster than 50 mph. Took it to the lexus delear, and they fixed it right up.

i`m thinking of taking mine off,and leaving it off.(not the front one)the one under the trans.I changed my trans fluid twice, and it makes one helluva mess. The fluid drains onto the plastic and drips every where!

This exact thing just happened to me today after getting my transmission flushed at Merchant Tire this past week. My husband took off the plate, and it looks like it has already been replaced once. Some foam on the longer section is missing. I'm going to try the adhesive foam and see if that works. Thank you for posting your experiences.

Default same rattle noise

I took my RX330 for it's 60k maintenance this weekend and they said the rattle noise was coming from the fuel tank protector cover that the foam part is worn out. They would take care of it for a cost of $90.00, is the same foam tape that you guys are talking about here? Sorry I do not know much about veichles but would like to fix this because it is very annoying when i drive over 60mph. What kind of brand and where can i buy this tape at if it is the same problem that is being talked on about here.

Thanks,
Brenda

The tape I used was leftover from a window replacement that I had on my house. You should be able to go to a hardware store to find some exterior foam tape.

I also had a rattling near the right rear passenger door. It drove me nuts. My daughter helped me find the problem, it turned out to be some loose plastic moulding below the door.

The repair shop that did the body work repairs must've forgot to put the screws that secure the inner wheel well to the lower side moulding. After I got some screws and clips to tighten the moulding back, the rattling was gone.
